Older candidates are welcome. Readiness for the Sacrament ordinarily includes two years of family or classroom based formation. Parent participation in the initial Information Session and the full day retreat is expected and are not to be missed for the value brought by each session. The Sacrament is normally soon after Easter, depending on the Bishop.
The candidates select a sponsor and complete service hours to the community at various times during the school year. The Information Session will be on the first day of class, usually the second weekend of September in Room 2. The retreat will at the beautiful Bethany Center in March or April and attendance is mandatory for all Candidates, Parents, and Sponsors 8: 3.
Check the Bulletin or the Web schedule for each year. Be sure to register in August or the first week of September to begin the classes on schedule. You may send your payment in with your registration or bring it to the first day of class. Note: Candidates for Confirmation are required to join in the activities of the appropriate Youth Group throughout the year of the Sacrament.
Once the Sacrament has been received and the Candidate is fully initiated into the Catholic Church, active membership in Middle and High School Youth Groups should continue until High School graduation. Learning about the history and theology of the Church must not stop at the sixth grade. Someone who enters college or adult life with a sixth grade understanding of their faith will be woefully unprepared for the onslaught of secular culture and defenseless against the distortions and misguided allegations about our beliefs. The teen years offer a great opportunity for serving in various ministries, mentoring younger Catholics, and learning more of the truth about the faith to build a belief for a life time. RCIA – RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTSRCIA is an adult and family process of preparation for reception of the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist). RCIA meets on Sunday mornings and/or several afternoons during the month.
The RCIA process is flexible and tailored to the needs of candidates who proceed through the process at their own pace. Generally, a new class begins each September, however, many factors may require adjustment of the schedule so we welcome your inquiries at any time of the year.
